Work

The examples below are largely from campaign work on which I’ve performed many roles. I also provide individual services, such as concept development and screenwriting, cinematography, and editing on a broad range and scale of projects.

Fairmont Pacific Rim: SUP

Role: Writer, Director, Camera, Editor

Fairmont Pacific Rim wanted to produce something a little outside the box to celebrate and communicate their progress in eliminating single-use plastics. I worked with them to develop a concept before scripting, shooting and editing the final video - Lamborghini modifications included! ;-)

As part of a larger campaign, the goal for this video was to communicate the impact that Lions Gate Hospital Oncology has in order to attract investment and donations from the community it serves so well. We were fortunate to work with Thea, who speaks from experience as both a patient and a volunteer at the hospital. Through her experience we were able to create a video that touches on the devastating impact a cancer diagnosis can have and how the right care makes all the difference.

The North Peace Division of Family Practice asked me to produce a video that would help attract Doctors to Northern BC.  The video needed to communicate a lot of information, do it with personality, and be able to work with or without audio. The final treatment leans on blockbuster movie trailers (with tongue firmly in cheek) to showcase the northern lifestyle, modern medical facilities and the myriad benefits of heading North, not least of which include Moose and ATVs.

MEC: Mega Fan

Role: Writer, Camera, Editor

The designers at MEC built a one-off product for April Fools 2022: The Mega Fan. I wrote, shot and edited this fun project that was selected for Daily Hive's top 10 Canadian April Fools pranks.

MEC: See yourself outside

Role: Writer, Director, Camera, Editor

I made this video as part of MEC’s response to calls for greater representation in the outdoor industry. After chatting with Judith, the subject of the video, I wrote a script and developed a technical approach that would tackle the themes both in terms of narrative and visuals.

I shot near-identical scenes in the forest, urban and indoor locations and used a combination of hard cuts and composites to hint at ideas around stereotypes and the importance of representation and role models.

The video won an RGD Award in-house design award.

“It touches both the head and the soul, apropos of the content itself — the magic of the great outdoors. This duality is evident throughout the video. The images of technology and urban landscape vs the forest and trails; the images of the current mono-culture marketing vs the reality of the polychromatic outdoor recreation market. The abruptness to which these elements are introduced well serves the tension that is the basis for this important work”.

Creative Coaction

Role: Creative Director, Video Producer

During the early months of the Covid-19 pandemic, I teamed up with local creatives to help small businesses and community groups. We built a website, established social channels and provided free services that included photography, video, copy and design.

Meaningful impact was the goal, so we set out to work with clients that shared our core value of helping others. We also needed to navigate the realities of lockdown and social distancing, which meant collaborating and building relationships online. Photo and video work was especially challenging. We leant heavily on user generated content and existing assets for the first few projects, only shooting new material once protocols were in place.

Elemeno is a startup that aims to provide nutritious lunches to school-aged children. Part of their mandate is to help address food insecurity in Vancouver by donating a percentage of profits to Mom2Mom, a charity that supports single moms. We helped Elemeno with logo development and the scripting and production of a promo video for their successful Kickstarter.

EVR creates organic ‘bean to bar’ chocolate and coffee and offers mentorship, training and employment to at-risk women re-entering the workforce. Like many businesses during Covid-19 lockdown, EVR needed to shift focus from their physical location to online.

East Van Roasters

We helped out by shooting e-comm imagery for their entire product line and re-cut an existing video into a social-friendly promo.
